The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences ADVANCE team works in conjunction with the Iowa State University ADVANCE program, which is a prominent vehicle to recruit, retain, and advance all faculty. ISU ADVANCE transforms structures to enrich ISU faculty careers. Our team works collaboratively across the university to cultivate policies, practices, and cultures to achieve a diverse and vibrant faculty across the university community.

I have been involved with ISU ADVANCE since the original grant from NSF. I am privileged to be in a college that firmly believes and supports the central idea of recruiting, supporting, retaining and advancing women and underrepresented faculty members. 

Through thoughtful engagement - reader theater, workshops, seminars, working groups - CALS strives to enhance the recruitment, retention and advancement of women and underrepresented faculty in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and beyond.

As the Equity Advisor for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, I promote best practices in recruiting, retaining, and promoting high-quality, diverse faculty and help to develop solutions to campus challenges. I work with the CALS administration, diversity committee, department chairs, faculty, and staff in the college to implement best practices and to transform policies and practices that help faculty succeed in moving through the ranks and being successful.

I, along with University Human Resources staff, provide training in best practices and mitigating implicit bias for all CALS Faculty Search committees. I also provide training on implicit bias for the college Promotion and Tenure committee. I work to disseminate information and best practices via ADVANCE-specific and established college activities, support departmental enhancement program activities, and communicate college needs to the ISU ADVANCE program.
