Application Materials and Procedures

Please fill out this online application and also return, by mail, the following:

  1. Official Transcript
    1. Including course grades, and courses currently enrolled in
    2. PSAT/ACT/SAT scores *not required to submit an application
    3. If your transcript doesn't include the above information, ask your guidance counselor to sign a copy of the information and attach it.
  2. Two recommendations
    1. Use the provided form docx or pdf
    2. Recomendations must be sealed in an envelope from the recommender.

Personal Statement
State your purpose in applying to the George Washington Carver summer internship program. Include specific research interests you would like to work in, your approach to research, and your goals as a professional. Indicate any experience, coursework, skills, obstacles you've overcome that you think will help the selection committee choose you. Please limit your statement to 600 words or less. You may write you statement in another program and paste it in below.
Diversity Statement
Please write a response to each of the following: 1) What challenges do you feel diversity students face in higher education? 2) How have you advocated for diversity in the past, and how you will advance diversity in the future. Please limit your statement to 300 words or less. You may write you statement in another program and paste it in below.
Essay
Answer one of the following questions with at least 500 words. 1) "When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." - George Washington Carver. Explain why you think this quote is relevant to science. 2) What challenges do you feel multi-cultural students face in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields?
